The world has seen amazing changes in a relatively short time. I’m not 20 anymore – actually I don’t think I was even when I was. But my point is I remember the pre-internet world. I remember pre-cell phones, pre-pagers. I remember days where all the things that seem so simply achieved today had once been almost impossible.
Tonight I was reminded of that when two friends from different parts of the country met each other for the first time in LA – purely by chance. And I learned of it shortly after they met. 20 or 30 years ago that wouldn’t have been possible. Joseph Scott Anthony and I met in Michigan about 5 years ago when we both were working on the movie Oz the Great and Powerful. Heather Costa and I met here in NYC years ago because we’re both voiceover artists by profession and many of us VO’s hang out together. But 20 or 30 years ago there wasn’t a Facebook, or twitter or Instagram or anything like that to keep in touch by. You either picked up the phone and made a call or you wrote and mailed – yes mailed – a letter. So most of the people we met, as cool as they were and as much as we tried to keep in touch, didn’t remain in our lives long enough to survive the next change of address.
Tonight though, I was tagged on Facebook as these two friends I last saw in Michigan and NYC met each other in LA for the first time, realized they both knew me – and it only took an instant for me to realize it too.
What will the world look like 20 years from now? #realtime#dontstop
